Political Advocacy

Associated Builders and Contractors is the voice of the merit shop in the construction industry, believing competition should always be open and fair. Our chapter accepts the responsibility for making that voice loud within the Commonwealth of Virginia, often meeting with political figures to ensure our members’ concerns are heard and addressed.

Grassroots Action

Grassroots is the effective deployment of constituent-based political power to impact and influence legislation that is important to ABC and its members.

Through your efforts, we can:

  • establish contacts to quickly and effectively reach out to officials on issues important to the merit shop;
  • educate and train ABC members to be effective advocates and spokespersons for the construction industry; and
  • be truly effective on Capitol Hill and in state capitals by reaching out to legislators through the most effective means possible—grassroots initiatives!

Download the ABC Action app for iPhone and Android smartphones. The app is an advanced advocacy tool that enables users to take action in grassroots campaigns and push for pro-merit shop legislation in Congress. Through the ABC Action app, users can send letters to their members of Congress with just one click, receive instant notifications for grassroots and legislative alerts, access the voting records of their representatives on key ABC issues, find detailed contact information for federal and state lawmakers and check out state-specific policy information in the Merit Shop Scorecard.

Political Action Committee (PAC)

The Political Action Committee (PAC) supports national, state and local candidates for office who believe in the principles of ABC’s merit shop philosophy, free enterprise and open competition. PAC is your voice in elective politics. ABC PAC members’ contributions are combined with others to jointly support candidates.

The Virginia State Political Action Committee’s (PAC) mission is to help elect state and local pro-merit shop candidates and support ballot initiatives that uphold fair and open competition. ABC-VA PAC funds also protect Virginia’s right-to-work statute, protect the business interests of Virginia contractors and protect Virginia contractors’ right to fair and open competition.

The purpose of ABC PAC is to work within the federal election process to further the goals of the association through direct involvement in supporting and opposing candidates for the Office of President, United States Senate and United States House of Representatives. This is accomplished through educating our members on the importance of political activism and through financial support of merit shop candidates.

Contributions to ABC-Virginia PAC are not tax deductible for federal or state income tax purposes. Contributions to ABC-Virginia PAC are for political purposes. All contributions to ABC-Virginia PAC are voluntary. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal. The proposed contribution amounts are merely suggestions; you may choose to contribute more or less or not at all. ABC will not favor or disadvantage anyone by reason of the amount contributed or the decision whether to contribute. Federal law requires political committees to report the name, address, occupation and name of employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year.
